Data collected at the wind turbine systems and wind measurement towers in the Vermont Small-Scale Wind Energy Demonstration Program is uploaded on a monthly basis towww.vtwindprogram.org.  The data is posted in Microsoft Excel (XLS) format, and is available separately for each wind turbine system/measurement tower in hourly intervals within calendar months.

All Excel files containing wind turbine system data are composed of 19 columns of data.

The first row in the spreadsheet of each file identifies the wind turbine system location by site number and then by site name.

The second row in the spreadsheet of each file is the header row for the included data.  It contains various headings which are described in further detail below:

Note: The value -999 in any field signifies no data is available in that field for that particular hour.

ADJHour contains a date and hourly timestamp describing when the data was recorded.  Each hourly period corresponds to data that was taken for the following hour.  In other words, a value in this field such as “10/2/05 4:00 AM” contains data recorded from 4am to 5am on that date.

The timestamps contained in ADJHour are in eastern standard time.  They are not adjusted for daylight savings time.  During periods of daylight savings time, add one hour to the timestamps to adjust to actual conditions.

RPMavg contains the average rate of revolutions-per-minute (RPMs) by the wind turbine rotor during the hourly interval.

RPMmin contains the minimum rate of revolutions-per-minute (RPMs) by the wind turbine rotor during the hourly interval.

RPMmax  contains the maximum rate of revolutions-per-minute (RPMs) by the wind turbine rotor during the hourly interval.

RPMsd contains the standard deviation (σ) of revolutions-per-minute (RPMs) by the wind turbine during the hourly interval.

WSavg contains average wind speed in miles-per-hour (mph) recorded by the on-site anemometer during the hourly interval.

WSmin contains the minimum wind speed in miles-per-hour (mph) recorded by the on-site anemometer during the hourly interval.

WSmax contains the maximum wind speed in miles-per-hour (mph) recorded by the on-site anemometer during the hourly interval.

WSsd contains the standard deviation (σ) of wind speed recorded by the on-site anemometer during the hourly interval.

DIRfir contains the first value of wind direction recorded by the on-site wind vane during the hourly interval. Wind direction is recorded in degrees clockwise from true north, which is 16 degrees counter-clockwise from magnetic north.

DIRsd contains the standard deviation (σ) of wind direction recorded by the on-site wind vane during the hourly interval.

TMPavg contains the average ambient air temperature (°F) recorded by the on-site temperature sensor during the hourly interval.

TMPmin contains the minimum temperature (°F) recorded by the on-site temperature sensor during the hourly interval.

TMPmax contains the maximum temperature (°F) recorded by the on-site temperature sensor during the hourly interval.

KWH contains the cumulative kilowatt-hours of energy generated by the wind turbine system during the hourly interval.

KWmax  contains the maximum instantaneous output of power (kilowatts) generated by the wind turbine system during the hourly interval.

KWsd contains the standard deviation (σ) of power output generated by the wind turbine system during the hourly interval.
