Wind Resource Maps
|
Wind resource maps are available for much of the northeastern United States at a scale helpful for broad understanding of regional wind characteristics; using 1 x 1 kilometer data modeled and field verified by AWS Truewind, VERA created an informative statewide wind resource map of Vermont in 2002. This map served to be of great use at a regional level, but of less practical use to local planners and homeowners interested in wind energy technology. In order to address the need for more precise information at the local level in Vermont, the Vermont Department of Public Service (DPS) asked VERA to create county-scale maps modeling estimated wind resource at the 30- and 50- meter heights above ground cover. Work on these maps was completed in May 2004. |

The 30m county-scale maps are available to download below. The 30m (approx. 100ft) height is appropriate for small wind energy systems, which are often mounted on 80 to 100 ft towers.
Note: All maps are 11 x 17" in PDF format.
